Makeup Tips File Drawer #16

Ref 768. How do I make my eyes look bigger and I would like to know the technique for doe eyes

Response to Ref 768. EVERYONE SEEMS TO WANT LARGE, BRIGHT EYES! THIS WILL BE THE ANSWER TO ALL THOSE WITH THIS QUESTION....

To enlarge and enhance the eyes use soft colors of tan, brown, gray or beige shadow. These colors are more of a universal color to intensify the natural coloration of your own eye color. That does not mean that you should not wear other colors, the application will be the same.

  1. Frame the eye by cleaning up the eyebrows of any stray hairs.
  2. Use a light contour on your cheek bones beneath the outer corner of your eyes. This will highlight your eyes too.
  3. Cover the entire eyelid area from the eyebrows to the lashes with a very light application of light beige or skin tone shadow, blended by touching and pressing with a finger tip.
  4. Cover the eyelid up to the crease and into the crease with your chosen eye shadow color. Blend, blend, blend carefully so that one is not aware of where either color stops.
  5. Line below the eyelashes start a 1/4 of the width away from the inside corner of your eye and is applied just beyond the outside corner of the eye meeting the dark shadow you applied on the upper eyelids. Lightly smudge or blend the charcoal or brown pencil line with a finger tip or Q-tip until it is not perceptible as a definite line. This will give the impression of a thickening of the lower eyelashes.
  6. You can apply the same eye liner pencil just above the upper eyelashes or gently lift the eyelid up so that you can apply the pencil to the tiny rim of flesh just underneath the eyelashes start at the inter corner and move to the outside corner of the eye. You do not want the eyeliner to show but to give the impression of density. Any liner above the lashes must be smudged to prevent a definite line.
  7. Using mascara gives a lift and openness to the eyes. Hold the brush wand horizontally and color each eyelash to prevent clamping. After the mascara is applied, brush through the lashes in the direction they grow - upward and outward- use a mascara brush or a small tooth brush to separate the lashes.
  8. Apply an eyebrow powder and groom the brow hairs upward with a brow brush. Apply a little hair spray on your finger tips and then to the brows to hold them in place.

I have a chapter in my book "Grow Young" on how to choose your best colors and how to apply makeup for your shape face and eyes. A picture is worth a thousand words. Please look it up in my web pages.

Ref 849. i am turning 40 and my face is looking old. i have blonde hair and would like to know what i can do to help. i only wear blush and eyeliner. what colors should i be wear to help me look younger. do i need foundation? please help i also have dark spots in the coner of my eyes. thank you.

Response to Ref 849 Find an eyeliner pencil the color of the brown spots and line your top lashes blending the pencil color into the brown spots as if it is a part of your makeup. Sounds like you need a facial for your birthday to stimulate a glow.

Gloria

Ref 851. Hi Gloia, I'M 40 with brown eyes, brown hair. My problem is I have a very long and narrow face with dark circles under my eyes and dark patches on my face. I'm always told I look tired or sick. My complexion is fair to medium. What can I do to cover the dark patches, soften my face, and what kind of hair style should I wear to help my face not look so long.

Response to Ref 851. Have you had a check up with your doctor about the dark circles? Long narrow faces photograph beautifully as you have seen from the many beautiful movie stars and models. The illusion of a natural glowing cheek should be all that is apparent. To find the starting point of blush; Draw an imaginary line from the corner of the eyes downward and start your cheek color application from that line just under the cheekbone moving toward the hair line. Blend, Blend so there is no demarcations. Use a light cover up on the dark patches before you apply your foundation.

Ref 853. Hi Gloria!! Now I know that you have had lots of questions about this but I just need to know one thing. Is there any makeup at all out there that can cover up freckles or just lighten them. Or is there any way besides staying out of the sun that I could make them fade on my Mom told my once that If you put lemon Jucie on your face every noght them It will make your freckels go away do you know if that works. And please don't refer me to another question that you awnsered because I have read them all and they don't awnser my question. PLEASE awnser my questions if you can!!!!
Thanks alot, Christa

Response to Ref 853 Christa the other questions have answered your question. The only way you will find out if lemon juice makes your freckles go away is to try it. I don't think it will hurt your skin. I wish I had some cream to bleach freckles - I would own my own Island and be living there.

Ref 855. hi gloria, whenever i put on foundation in the morning before school, by

lunch time it looks like i patted it on with a paper towel, how can i make
make it look normal with out all the clumping>>???? thank you so much

Response to Ref 855 It could be the brand of foundation that is too oily for your skin. Don't use moisturizer under your makeup. Try using a loose powder instead of a foundation.

Gloria

Ref 856. the skin over my upper lip is darker in colour, why? what should i do to get rid of this pigmentation?

Response to Ref 856. Have you had your upper lip waxed, or do you rub the skin on your upper lip often? These treatments can cause a darker pigmentation on the skin. Be sure to wear a sun screen.

Ref 857. I'm 14 yrs. old and my face is pale in the mornings but its not dry or oily. I put on my foundation, which is oil-free, but after about 2 period at school my face is all oily. This is causing major breakouts on my forehead and chin, but nowhere else. Even when I clean my face free of make-up the face will not clear up! Any suggestions for this?

Response to Ref 857. Most oil-free foundations have some oil in them. To keep the skin transparent use just a concealer and a non-oily moisturizer. Or use a little powder on your nose and cheeks and don't use anything oily on your forehead or chin, keep it clean.

Ref 858. What shade of eyeshadow and lipstick goes well with dark brown hair?

Response to Ref 858. You want to match your eye shadow and lipstick with your skin tone and eye color.

Gloria

Ref 859. I have aqua colored eyes and dark brown hair...what colors of eyeshadow and lipstick goes well with this combo? I also have a kinda pale face...not too pale though. I'm 14 and I want my face to look natural, yet pretty.

Response to Ref 859. Don't use a color that is brighter than your aqua eye color. The brighter shadow or eyeliner will always win the spot light. Keep your lips glossed so that your eyes are the focus.

Gloria

Ref 860. What is a good moisturizing body lotion to use at night? What kind of ingrediant should I look for?

Response to Ref 860. Keri body lotion will keep you moist.

Gloria

Ref 861. Is it ok to use vitamin E (32,000) on face wrinkles or will it break out my face because of all that oil? Thank you!

Response to Ref 861. If you have normal to dry skin Vitamin E every other night should not break your skin out.

Gloria

Ref 862. Is it true that shampoos like "Nixon" will actually help regrow hair?

Response to Ref 862. Our skin and hair reacts differently to each product we use. You will only know after you try it.

Gloria

Ref 863. I want to color my own hair (it is light brown with blond high lights) and make it more blonder and more of one color instead of streaky. Do you know of a good product that I could buy at the store?

Response to Ref 863. NO! Every time I have tried to color my own hair it has had red or orange highlights which made my skin look old. Coloring blond hair is very different than dying other hair colors. Save money and have it done professionally.

Gloria

Ref 864. I am wanting to get my teeth bleached at the dentist. Do you know if it really works and how long they will stay white. Also, do you the approx. price for this.
Thanks for your help.

Response to Ref 864. Yes teeth bleaching works. Each Dentist has their own pricing. Call around to check prices. Have you tried the teeth whiteners sold in the drug store? Do you smoke, drink coffee and tea? They stain the teeth so it will depend on how you take care of your teeth as to how long they stay white.

Gloria

Ref 865. I am needing to buy a new hair dryer and wondering about the ones with the "cool Button" that blows cold hair. Is this really necessary and does it really do anything?

Response to Ref 865. My old hair dryer blows cold air, that is not a new feature. Look for one without the cold air.

Gloria

Ref 866. My hair has been very, very dry and I condition it often but nothing seems to work. Is there one product better than another I could buy. I also do get my hair trimmed often too.

Response to Ref 866. Wash your hair once a week using a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Do a conditioning hot-oil treatment before you shampoo: I apply a couple of drops of olive oil to the ends of my hair, I cover the hair with a shower cap for 15 minutes, then wash in warm water and rinse well.

Gloria

Ref 867. I have very nasty acne on my upper back and between my breasts. I shower daily and use specially medicated pads but nothing seems to work! They only swell or blister. I'm allergic to benzoyl peroxide, so most acne products don't help me. What do I do? I feel like I'll have to wear high-necked, long-sleeved shirts all my life!

Response to Ref 867. Males have more male hormones and this can cause acne. Check with your doctor. If you are female check with your doctor for a hormonal count.

Gloria

Ref 868. How do I get rid of acne scars? I get a lot of zits on my back, but even when they clear up, I have dozens of big red scars that look just as gross, only they can't be treated. I think I'd feel a lot better about dealing with my acne itself if the scars didn't make it look ten times worse than it is. They last FOREVER! Some I've had for a year or more. Is there a special lotion or something that will help with the healing process? Thanx.

Response to Ref 868. I know many people who have had good results with laser treatments for acne scars. I do wish there was a lotion to clear this problem.

Gloria

Ref 869. Dear Gloria,
I use eyeliner everyday. The problem is by the time I get to work it seems to come off.
Any tips on how to keep it on.

Response to Ref 869. Find an eyeliner with more wax. If that is not the problem try the kola pencils from India, they are made to be used in their hot climate heat.

Gloria

Ref 870. How do I cover up stretch marks?

Response to Ref 870. There are body makeups on the market - try the beauty supply store.
