Makeup Tips File Drawer #13

Ref 694. Dear Gloria,
Hi! I was wondering if you know any recipes to a home made face mask. Thanks!! clare

Response to Ref 694. Clare If your skin is oily a great mask is the honey and oatmeal paste. Apply it and leave on for 10 to 15 minutes and rinse off. Avoid the area around the eyes.

Gloria

Ref 695. Dear Gloria,
Hi! My mom thinks my makeup is to dark. I wear dark brown eyeshadow with some black too. I have light skin, blue eyes and medium brown hair. ive tried lighter colrs but they dont look"right" i tried red but it also dosent work for me. Could you please help?---marianne

Response to Ref 695. Marianne It sounds like your makeup is too dark for your skin, hair and eye color. What you may be experiencing when you say it does not feel right is that after you wear very dark heavy makeup and you change to non or light makeup you look pale and naked. It takes time to get used to light brighter colors after wearing dark dull ones.

Gloria

Ref 697. dear gloria,

i have big green eyes and i feel that they are the best feature of my face. unfortunately i have short, uncurly eyelashes that fall out when i touch them. do you know of any product that helps eyelashes stay strong and grow long? i have used eyelash curlers but they make the lashes fall off even more. please help!!

Response to Ref 697. When you find the magical product that will grow lashes let me know. You sound just as I did when I was your age. Use a smoky/plum eyeliner very close to the lash line on the upper and lower eyelid, smudge the line a bit to look natural. This will give you a look of having more lashes than you have. Do not let the two lines meet, that will make your eyes look smaller.

Gloria

Ref 698. Dear Gloria, what kind of makeup should I wear. I am almost 40 years old and usually I do not wear any makeup. I just don't feel comfortable with it. I have problem skin, and I have allergy to perfumed and anything with lanolin based products. Are there any products that I may used on my face without breaking into a rash.
Mona

Response to Ref 698. Mona, Feature your eyes and wear a good tinted sun screen to brighten you skin tone. Your comfort level will improve when you find a product that looks and feels good.

Gloria

Ref 699. dear gloria, i am an african american and i have scars from playing and falling down as a child that will not go away. i have noticed that white people don't scar very much. anyway i was wondering what creams or treatments do movie stars use to get rid of scars and can i get the same treatment. is there a treatment that will work for black people that is fairly inexpensive because i am in college and i need something that works fast and that won't damage my skin. thank you

Response to Ref 699. I don't know of a cream to remove scars. The stars cover most of their blemishes up with pancake makeup. Head for the beauty supply store and get a cover cream to blend with your skin tone.

Gloria

Ref 701. Gloria
I am 25F, looking 19. I have natural curly hair (rigglets),
shoulder length. It's light/medium brown with a warm reddish glow.
I have deep set DARK brown eyes, rounded & close together. I have a
very slender face & a narrow nose. I'm looking for makeup pointers that
are still "in" without going too '70ish. I wear a brown liquid liner
on top lids and a smudged brown under the outer lower lashes w/ warm
brown lipstick. Being only 5'5" & 110# I want a look that demands respect
@ the office, but @ the same time is a "hip chic" look. I have lots
of black & natural earth tones in my makeup box & in the wardrobe.
So what's new & different? ThanX!

Response to Ref 701. With your coloring the natural earth tones are great. I would save the black for high dramatic definition. Use a charcoal green and see how it warms up your eyes. Try a coral lipstick.

Gloria

Ref 702. Attn: Ref 700...
I don't know if Gloria would approve, but have you tried
John Frieda's Frizz Ease? I use the shampoo, glistening creme
and hair syrum. It works for my curls!

Response to Ref 702. If anyone has found something special that works let us all know.

Gloria

Ref 703. hello Gloria I have medium brown hair and I was wondering if you know how get a few blondish streaks naturaly as in concentrated lemon juice etc. thanks Susan A

Response to Ref 703. Susan, lemon and vinegar have been used for centuries.

Gloria

Ref 704. Dear Gloria,
I'm 15 and tired of wearing so much make up. I want a natural look. I have no pimples or blemishes.
My skin color is a bronze, my hair color varys from brown to blonde because of my hi-lights,
and my eyes are light brown. The problem is that my eye bags and eye circles are too dark for
me to be without make-up. How do I handle this problem?
Zombie

Response to Ref 704. Bright eyes Be very gentle when removing makeup or applying it under your eyes. Check for allergies. Try a light yellow-orange concealer that blends with your bronze skin.

Gloria

Ref 705. Hello Gloria !
Please help me! I am currently a freelance makeup artist who is wanting a artistry job in TV, film, or studio ( photography ).
My problem is, where do I find these jobs? I have a good amount of experience and I majored in Fine Arts for a while too. I also have a AA in Cosmetics Merchandising. Maybe you can help?
Thanks !
Rachel

Response to Ref 705. Rachel What city do you work in?

Gloria

Ref 706. I'm fourteen years old, african-american female, and I have very very bad acne. This has been going on for a couple of years now, and I dont care what other people say I don't and can't believe this is because of puberty. A little less than a year ago I started going regularly to a face specialist, having facials and using quality (very very expensive products) products such as Phytomer and Murad. I think I'm going to stop going to the dermatoligist because currently my face is worst than it has ever been. I'm going to start using Noxema, the basics. What do you think? I have small and large pimples everywhere. But mostly on my cheeks. I also have quite a few scars. A response would be appreciated.
SAM

Response to Ref 706. Sam are you male or female? Males usually have more oil glands and more acne. I would take a very close look at your diet. No fried foods, non-essential fats like the ones in sweets and snack foods. Have you tried taking zinc supplements? How did the facials work out. Let me know how you are doing.

Gloria

Ref 707. To whoever posted Ref 706 :

Absolutely, under no circumstances should you use Noxema if you have acne already. Noxema is a highly comedogenic substance, despite the fact that they would like you to believe otherwise. You should seek the aid of another dermatologist. If you do, be sure to tell them that you have been completely unsuccessful with topical therapies, and demand suppressive antibiotics or Accutane (if you haven't tried them already). Some people respond well to topical therapies, but if you have sensitive skin, often they can dry it, causing an even greater elevation in the skins oil production (which of course, translates to a greater amount of acne). You should forget the face specialist, and concentrate on finding a more skilled doctor.

Response to Ref 707. Thanks for the help.

Gloria

Ref 708. Gloria,
hello. I am a 14 yr. old girl with light brown hair, and I have some scars on my face from when I used to pick at my pimples. I stopped picking at them, so I mstly have clear skin except for my scars. Every type of makeup I try clumps on my skin and is really noticable. Do you have any suggestions on any type of makeup I could use to cover them up? Please help me, I am desperate. I am really self-consious about myself because of my skin.
Thanx,
Shauna

Response to Ref 708. Shauna, Use a medicated, non greasy liquid base. Lighter shades cover blemishes and scars better. Use an enzyme mask to exfoliate the surface of the skin and soften the look of the scars.

Gloria

Ref 709. Hi I am 14 years old and I am having headshots done in a couple of days. I have under eye circles that are noticable and I was wondering if you have any suggestions on what makeup to use to cover those up. Also is it necessary to have plucked eye brows as you get older? One last question - I don't know if you can help me or not but I don't know what to wear for these pictures for agents and casting directors so I was wondering if you could give me some tips on what to wear? Thanx Dominique

Response to Ref 709. Dominique, head shots for agents and casting directors are so important to your career you need to have a professional help you with makeup and wardrobe.

Gloria

Ref 710. Gloria
I have had strech marks for as long as I can remember. I have had pulse dye laser surgery to correct the problem, but there was no luck. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on how to rid myself of this embarassing problem.
Thanks,
Lisa

Response to Ref 710. Lisa, The laser would have been my last suggestion. Sorry.

Gloria

Ref 711. GLORIA::
I have sort of the same problem as #704. I get purple half moons under
my eyes no matter how much sleep I get! Is there another cause for
under eye blemishes? Please help me get rid of this problem. I love
the natural look, and usually go without makeup, but now that I'm 15
I've been more selfconscious. Thanks.
Tanya

Response to Ref 711. Tanya, have you checked for allergies, this is one of the largest causes of dark circles. Are you getting enough protein? How many sweet foods are you eating. Start checking and making a list of foods you have eaten on the days your eyes are really dark.

Gloria

Ref 712. hi gloria
i am 15 and have break outs every once in a while. how can i cover
them and still look natrual?
thanks
jessie

Response to Ref 712. Jessie, find a medicated cover cream that blends with your skin tone and apply it to the breakouts.

Gloria

Ref 713. hey gloria
i know this may not be in your field but how can i lose some weight
linda

Response to Ref 713. Linda, I have a book with a chapter on how to find your best diet. The body needs proper nutrition to maintain its correct weight.

Gloria

Ref 714. Hi Gloria
I have acne all over my face and back, my skin is very oily, and I have tried everything but nothing seems to work, the one thing that I haven't tried is the ClearLogix System, should I try it or do you have another suggestion?
Kadi

Response to Ref 714. Kadi, have you seen a doctor? I have never heard of ClearLogix.

Gloria

Ref 715. Hi Gloria!
I have really red & ugly stretch marks all over my inner & outer thighs and under arms. People have said that it's from changes in my weight (I gain and then I lose and then I gain). I've tried several creams, they're still very noticable. How can I get rid of this or tone it down so that I can start wearing skirts again?!

Response to Ref 715. Laser may be very expensive but it's the only way I know to try to soften stretch marks. Laser does not always work.

Gloria

Ref 717. I'm african american who has blak spots on her face, how do i get rid of them.

Response to Ref 717. Are the black spots raised? These may be something you want your doctor to take a look at.

Gloria

Ref 718. My hair won't do anything! It's shoulder length and really thick - and it dosn't grow!! What can I do?

Response to Ref 718. Find a great hairstylist to take a look at your hair.

Gloria

Ref 719. I have a really round face and when I try to put my hair up it just makes it look more round, what can I do?

Response to Ref 719. Never apply your rough in a circle. Use the blusher just under and along the cheekbones. Shade underneath the cheekbones just above the corners of the lips. This will reduce the width of a round face.

Gloria

Ref 720. I need help with my hair. I have blonde hair right now and blue eyes. My face is kind of round kind of oval shaped. I want to get a hair do' that'll look good on me. I'm thinking of like, getting brown streaks in my hair, but I don't know if it'll look good with my short hair...help!!!! What do you suggest I do to my hair. I need all the help I can get! Please e-mail me at: mvoxland@means.net Thank you! Meg

Response to Ref 720. Meg you have a great look, play up those natural features and work on something that needs help.

Gloria

Ref 721. Dear Gloria
I live in Australia and with the extreme sun conditions I seem to get very sunburnt even on the way to work. I am 24 years old with olive skin. Can you suggest and treatments to ease the redness. Also are there any foundations that you can suggest that does not become shiney with heat. Kind Regards. Down Under

Response to Ref 721. Down Under, There are some foundations with sun block, look for the ones you have there. We get lots of damaging rays while we drive and even in houses that have lots of windows. Wear a sun screen all the time and tint your windows.

Gloria

Ref 722. I am starting to age, my skin has become very dry. I also would like to know what color foundation would be good for me. I change my hair color all the time , right now it is reddish blonde, but my complexion is olive and is taking on a red tinge. I don't know if its aging or because I'm half native american.
Thanks
Carol

Response to Ref 722. Carol, wearing the color has an affect on how old we look. The wrong color lip stick can age us 5 to 10 years. I have a book for you. There are a couple of chapters on how to find you skin tone and the best colors to wear with it. You will love seeing another dimension of yourself.

Gloria

Ref 723. I am a 14 year old female, and I have light brown medium length hair, hazel/green eyes, and I have medium colour skin, but I am fairly tanned right now. I think my eyes are very pretty, and a nice shape. What kind of make-up (eye-shadow in particular) would bring out more of the green in my eyes? Thanks for your time!
~Margaret

Response to Ref 723. Margaret, Use a smoky/plum eyeliner and a matching eye shadow.

Gloria
