Makeup Tips File Drawer #11

Ref 590. Dear Gloria,
I have been desperately searching for a truly 100% waterproof mascara.
Each time I find one, the company seems to discontinue it. I would
like one that stays on when I swim and is removable only with special
remover not soap and water. Any suggestions? Thank you, Lori

Response to Ref 590. Lori have you ever wondered why the company discontinues its 100% waterproof mascara??? It is not the best for our lashes. Try having your lashes tinted.

Ref 591. gloria:
hi! i am 14 and i am really into makeup i live at the makeup counters and have been examining how to do makeup right.
A couple days ago i started mixing nail polishes and my friends loved the colors that i formed i wanted to know how i could start a makeup line.thanks
tam

Response to Ref 591. Tam you may want to work for or help out at a makeup company for a while, learn more about the business before you jump in, they may even help you produce your products.

Ref 592. Hi Gloria,
I'm 16 and I have small, deep set eyes (they're a bluish color), and low eyebrows. What can I do to make my eyes look larger and more 'open'?
Thanks

Response to Ref 592. If you have thick eyebrows remove the underneath row of brows, slowly, keeping an eye on the shape. That will lift the brows and give more space. Use a light shadow under your eyebrows.

Ref 593. Hi Gloria,
Psoriasis runs in my family and I have it in the front of my scalp, just above the hair line. I've tried all kinds of different moisturizing shampoos and coditioners that have been reccomended by stylists but nothing has worked. Can you suggest anything or is it time to see a doctor?
Thank you

Response to Ref 593. Check with your doctor, psoriasis can be very dangerous when located around the eyes.

Gloria

Ref 595. Dear Gloria,
I am 15 and I have naturally curly and thick hair but there is not
enough curl in my hair to just wash it and go if I do that my hair
turns into a poofy frizzy mess. My hair does that even when I try to
blow dry it strait. And sometimes I defuse it but I have to put on a
lot of hair spray to keep the frizz from coming out so I end up with a
tremendous amount of buildup and I don't realy like it curly anyway.
None of the hair stylists I've been to scince I was born have been able to
deal with my curly, thick, and frizzy hair. What do you suggest to
make my hair as flat and strait as possible?
Rats nest

Response to Ref 595. Rats nest you need to do more research and find a stylist who specializes in curly hair, it's not easy, but will pay off in the end.

Ref 596. Dear Gloria,
I am an air stewardess so my skin is very dry then very oily it is hard to get
the perfect Make up, by the end of my day it doesn't look like i'm wearina any
at times! I use Clinique skin care and makeup which agrees with my skin.I have dark
brown eyes and medium brown hair but my makeup consists of only beige shades of
eye shadows. Can you give me any tips on how I can add colour to my face? I have to wear
red lipstick so I'm not sure of what colours would look right.

Sara X

Gloria

Ref 597. Hi,
I have never worn make-up, but have vitiligo and I am looking to cover it up. Any make-up I have tried, turns orange or yellow. I am most interested in covering the spots on my face, what can I do?

Gloria

Ref 598. Can I use lemon juice to dye my hair? Its blonde now, would it bleach it?

Response to Ref 598. Lemon juice helps lighten already light hair. It does not dye hair.

Gloria

Ref 599. What colours (makeup and clothes) look good on a Summer woman?

Response to Ref 599. It depends on your eye color and skin tone.

Gloria

Ref 601. Dear Gloria,

Thank you so much for your service to us all. I am about to go to a very formal event. Usually I pick a nice green or purple dress and I've always had very good luck with make-up. Now that I am daring to be different (gasp!) I am going to wear a white gown with some marabou feathers. I'll be going for sophisticated but fun, and my hair shall be plain with a few jasmine flowers. White is a problem for me. I've got light red-brown hair (I've never found a name to describe it), light all over freckles, hazel-to-deep green eyes, and some red pigmenting around my chin and nostrils. I'm not sure what colors would be best to help the white gown. I do NOT like the white eye-liner look, and would prefer something natural, but not everyday. Can you suggest some colors to try on my lips and eyes?

Thank you,

Kristin (aussieluv@juno.com)

Response to Ref 601.Use a gray/purple eyeliner and a coral lip stick.

Gloria

Ref 602. Dear Gloria, I have the same problem as #568. I break out from "all" brands of cosmetics. Its so pathetic! I recently tried Clinique. It worked alot better than other brands but basically just delayed my skin from breaking out. What is worse is that I am actively involved in the entertainment industry and looks are a must! I would appreciate your consutance,THANKS.

Response to Ref 602. Email me and I will ask a few questions before making a suggestion.

Gloria

Ref 603. hello, im a young black african american and i have many problems with my skin, can you help????

Response to Ref 603. Yes ask me a question.

Gloria

Ref 604. Gloria,
Hi, I have some questions to ask you. I have small blue eyes. Is there is a way to make them look bigger? I have small eyes, mouth, and ears, but my nose is kinda big. Is there a way I could make it look smaller with makeup? Thankyou very much for your time. Have a good day. Harmony

Response to Ref 604. Harmony use light skin tone eye shadows and light browns for accent/contour. Use a medium to light color lip stick color to avoid bringing attention to your nose. Contour the sides of your nose with a very light tan contour powder.

Gloria

Ref 605. Gloria,
I am 13 years old. I have blonde hair and small blue eyes. I have a some blackheads on my nose and chin but besides that I have a clear fase. My face is an oval shape. I was just wondering what makeup colors would look best on me and what hair style. Thanks a thous. Melody

Response to Ref 605. Melody find a good hair stylist for your hair cut. She can match your hair texture and cut with the shape of your face. Use only a pale lip gloss on your lips.

Gloria

Ref 609. Hi,
I have brown eyes and light brown hair and a semi-dark olive skin complection. I was wondering what color eyeshadow,& lipstick I can wear. I'm 13 years old.

Gloria

Ref 610. Gloria- I have the type of eyes seem to change color ranging from dark brown to bright green depending on my moods and surroundings- is there anyway to make my eyes appear more dramatic-and play up on the green eye color?
Sarahbeth

Response to Ref 610. Sarahbeth what a great pair of eyes. Have you observed which mood or surroundings change your eyes to which color? To brighten the green, use a gray, purple eyeliner.

Gloria

Ref 611. Hi!
I have very nearly black eyes and i want to emphasise their bigness coz they are medium sized right now. How?

Response to Ref 611. Line the lower lid next to the lash line starting at the edge of the iris (outer position) make a thin line, widening your stroke as you reach the outer corner. Use mascara on the upper lashes only. Keep the shadows neutral.

Gloria

Ref 612. how can I make my eyebrows perfectly shaped? Is there any way to do this without having to go to a beauty shop?

Response to Ref 612. It is best to be trained by a professional for the first time.

Gloria
